Willamette stifles Menlo in 32-14 NWC win
Bearcats limit Oaks to 61 yards in offense; Swinford-2 TD runs for WU

ATHERTON, CALIF. -- Willamette University held Menlo College to just 61 yards of offense, as the Bearcats defeated the Oaks, 32-14, in a Northwest Conference game. Willamette improved to 3-4 on the season, including 2-1 in the NWC. Menlo fell to 1-7 overall, 1-3 in the NWC.

Willamette quarterback Ryan Whitcomb (So., Oak View, CA/Nordhoff HS/College of the Canyons) ran for 109 yards and Skylar Swinford (Sr., RB, McCall, ID/McCall-Donnelly HS) scored two second half touchdowns on runs of six and 18 yards. The Bearcats rushed for 389 yards and gained 425 yards of total offense.

The Oaks scored both of their touchdowns on defense. An interception return for a touchdown gave Menlo a 7-0 lead and a fumble returned to the end zone resulted in a 14-10 advantage for the home team. WU scored late in the first half for a 17-14 margin at the break, then added the two touchdowns by Swinford in the third and fourth quarters.

WU's defense allowed just 41 rushing yards by the Oaks. Menlo also struggled through the air, gaining just 20 yards passing.

The Bearcats will play their first home game since Sept. 29 when defending NWC champion Whitworth University arrives at McCulloch Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 27. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT). The game will be broadcast live on Full Access Sports beginning with the pregame show at 12:45 pm.
