West Salem tops all-CVC grid picks
Titans land nine players on first team

The old saying is that "to the victor goes the spoils." And for West Salem, that meant dominating the CVC's 2009 first team all-conference football selections.

The CVC champs not only had nine players on the first team, but also nabbed offensive and defensive player of the year awards, along with coach of the year honors for Titan Coach Shawn Stanley and assistant coach Josh Beckett.

Titans senior running back Sal Herrera was the offensive player of the year, and junior linebacker Shane Kuenzi nabbed defensive player honors. Herrera was also awarded first team honors as kick returner. Other West first teamers on offense included senior tackle Trent Gallegos and senior guard Connor Kryskalla--both unanimous picks; senior center Scott Kryskalla and senior wide receiver Cole Pittman.

Defensively, West Salem selections included sophomore d-lineman Lochlin Deeks, Kuenzi, senior corner Phil Tolley and senior safety Chase Fowler.

Conference runner-up South Salem had five first team picks, and third place Sprague had eight first teamers.

Coaches decided to split first team quarterback honors. Sprague's Jeff Kidd and South's Conor Lynch were both named as the league's top signal callers.
