Pass by almost any football field in the mid Willamette Valley, and you will see helmeted warriors responding to whistles and chasing after a leather-covered oval.
Football season 2010 is gearing up, and for fans it is a welcome sight.
At the college level, Willamette University and Western Oregon University teams are in the middle of their summer camps. Full Access Sports will be posting photos from both campuses during the course of the week.
Of course, broadcasters Mike Allegre and Craig Spivey will be covering all Willamette games again this season on Full Access Sports. The Bearcats and Linfield—both ranked in the D3.com national polls—are expected to battle for a berth in the NCCA playoffs. Willamette starts with two tough contests against perennial powers. September 4, they travel to Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and September 11, to Texas for an encounter at Hardin-Simmons. And for home WU football games--a NEW addition--live streaming video from McCulloch Stadium.
On a personal note, I have become the football radio voice of Western Oregon University. My father-long time coach, Jerry Gilman and I will open the season in Canada as the Wolves travel to Simon Fraser. WOU is expected to contend with national semi-finalist Central Washington for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) title.
High School football teams are also preparing for the season locally. First up will be the exclusive Full Access Sports coaches poll on who should be at the top of the Central Valley Conference football standings. Look for FAS's complete CVC football previews in the coming week, with video from doubles practices to follow. Smaller, Salem-Keizer area schools will also be previewed.
Check out our broadcast schedule page for a list of all the CVC contests to be covered live online.
By the way, be sure to tell all your other football friends about us. And if you haven’t already done it, “friend” Full Access Sports on Facebook. We post updates on our latest stories, links and broadcasts so you can go to them directly.
