2011 CENTRAL VALLEY CONFERENCE
FOOTBALL PREVIEW

MCKAY
Coach:  Jay Minyard, 7th year
2010:  3-2 (4-5)-3rd place/CVC
Lost to Lake Oswego in 6A playoffs/first round

The McKay Royal Scots finished in the top half of the CVC football standings last year, thanks to the talents of now-graduated quarterback Ian Silbernagel.

In 2011, McKay coach Jay Minyard will be pinning his hopes on a small group of athletes to keep the team competitive for the entire season.  And, he is counting on quick development of a very young defensive corps.

OFFENSE

Senior Alex Emerson (5-8 170) is the favorite to run McKay’s multi-formation offense after seeing limited action last year.  Junior Juan Ochoa (5-9 165) is also expected to get some time as signal caller.

At running back, Tyler Gonzales (5-11 185 Jr.)  returns after rushing for over 150 yards as a sophomore.  Senior Axel Miranda (5-9 185) will also pack the ball for the Scots.

Three players return on the offensive line.  Senior Dalton Brown (6-2 220) and Junior J.R. Fischiosy (6-2 210) are projected starters at tackle.  Senior Omar Valdez (5-9 280) will fill a guard position.  Players up from last year’s JV team will fill the remaining slots.

The wide receivers will be seeing their first extensive varsity playing time.  Minyard says seniors Isreal Moses (5-9 160) and Mijad Abdelrasul (5-9 160) are his top prospects.

DEFENSE

On the defensive line, Brown and Fischiosy will serve as  the anchors up front.  Minyard is hopeful daily doubles will help identify other line players early.

At linebacker, Gonzales is the sole returner with extensive experience.

Ochoa and Emerson will also see double duty—roaming the secondary for McKay.
